French Development Agency delegation welcomed in Son La

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Hong Minh chaired a working session on July 17 with a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) to discuss the implementation of a project on improving urban infrastructure in response to climate change.

The working session was attended by Herver Conan, Director of AFD Vietnam; and representatives from departments and sectors of Son La province, and the People's Committees of To Hieu, Chieng Sinh and Chieng An wards.

The two sides exchanged views on the 970 billion VND (37 million USD) project, which uses ODA loans from the AFD. The project, implemented in To Hieu, Chieng An, Chieng Sinh, and Chieng Coi wards, aims to comprehensively solve problems related to flood prevention, and urban drainage; improve the environment and air, and wastewater treatment; and protect the water environment, with the goal of proactively responding to climate change and creating a premise for green, fast and sustainable urban development in the future.

The AFD delegation appreciated Son La’s efforts in implementing the project, and vowed to continue accompaning the local authorities in this work.

Minh thanked AFD for supporting the project, expressing his hope to receive its continued assistance. He affirmed that Son La will create the best conditions for the project implementation, and assign departments and sectors to promptly organise appraisal and advise the provincial People's Committee to approve the adjustment of the project investment policy according to regulations.

The ODA Project Management Board was asked to closely coordinate with relevant departments, agencies and units to make and appraise the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment reports to submit to the provincial People’s Committee for approval, ensuring compliance with regulations and project progress.
