On the occasion of Bunpimay, the traditional New Year festival of Laos, and the 64th founding anniversary of the Lao Police Force, a working delegation from the Son La provincial Department of Public Security led by its Director Major General Dang Trong Cuong visited to extend New Year greetings and hold working sessions with the police departments of Laos’ Houaphanh, Oudomxay, and Luang Prabang provinces on April 7-11.

A delegation from the Department of Justice of Laos’ Houaphanh province led by its Director Phuhuon Phomavan on March 25 visited Son La province to exchange experience in judicial work and civil judgment enforcement with their local counterparts.

EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier on February 18 led a delegation to visit La province, where he had a working session with local leaders, including Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and head of Son La province’s delegation of NA deputies; and Dang Ngoc Hau, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.

During the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, thousands of people from Sơn La province joined the army and fought against the enemies alongside the revolutionary forces of Laos, contributing to the glorious victories of both the Vietnamese and Lao peoples. In peacetime, people-to-people diplomacy with meaningful and practical activities continues to strengthen the traditional, special, loyal, and enduring Vietnam-Laos relationship.

A delegation from the Son La provincial Department of Public Security led by its Deputy Director Colonel Vi Quyen Chu on December 19 visited and had a working session with its counterpart of Laos’ Bokeo province. The delegation was hosted by Colonel Khamdeng Vannasith, Deputy Director of the Bokeo Department of Public Security.

On the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) (December 22, 1944 – 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the All-People Defence Day (December 22, 1989 – 2024), the Military Command of Son La province organised a ceremony on December 18 to receive the second-class Feat of Arms Order from the Lao Ministry of National Defence.

The Son La provincial Department of Public Security, in collaboration with the provincial Border Guard Command, is organizing a training course on drug prevention and control for specialized forces from the three Lao provinces of Houaphanh, Luang Prabang, and Bokeo.

A delegation led by Hiroshi Fukada, former Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, on December 4 visited Son La province to discuss collaboration on disaster warning and prevention.
