Since the beginning of the year, communication and information activities have been implemented effectively. The province has directed departments, agencies, sectors, and localities to promote major political, cultural, social, and foreign affairs events, including accelerating the construction of 13 inter-level boarding schools in border communes and highlighting the leadership and direction of Party committees in promoting economic development in border areas.
The Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee sent congratulatory letters to leaders of Lao provinces on the successful organisation of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and informed the foreign affairs agencies of nine Lao provinces about the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Son La also cabled congratulatory letters to the Lao Embassy in Vietnam and the nine Lao provinces on the occasion of the Bunpimay New Year 2026. The Chairman of the provincial People's Committee extended congratulations to the Embassies of Cuba and Japan in Vietnam on their respective National Days.
Nguyen Duy Luong, standing deputy head of the provincial Party Committee’s Board for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, stated that the board had advised the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board to issue a plan for implementing border communication activities in 2026. It also coordinated with Brigade 126 of the Vietnam People's Navy to organise a 2026 conference on maritime and island sovereignty for more than 2,400 officials, Party members, and students in Thuan Chau and Quynh Nhai communes.
In addition, it introduced eight exemplary models to the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation for inclusion in thematic exhibitions serving the dissemination and education on the “Studying and Following Ho Chi Minh’s Ideology, Morality and Style” campaign in 2026.
Departments, agencies, and mass organisations have continued to innovate both the content and methods of disseminating the province’s external information policies. Son La Newspaper and Radio-Television has maintained and improved the quality of 26 episodes of the programme “Son La mien dat con nguoi” (Son La – Land and People), 12 episodes of “Sac mau Tay Bac” (Colors of the Northwest), six episodes of “Thong tin doi ngoai” (External Information), and 12 episodes of “Di san van hoa” (Cultural Heritage).
Hundreds of video clips, infographics, and digital communication products have also been published on Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and the STVGo application. More than 1,500 news articles, reports, photographs, and video clips promoting external information and introducing the images of Vietnam and Son La to international audiences have been published, with selected articles translated into English, Mong, and Thai.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has maintained a digital external information database introducing Son La province across various sectors to the international community and Vietnamese people both at home and abroad. The database is available in both Vietnamese and English.
The department also organised the signing ceremony of the tourism cooperation programme between the expanded northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026–2030 period. In addition, it sent delegations of officials, artisans, village elders, village heads, and prestigious ethnic representatives to participate in the 2026 “Spring Colours Across the Fatherland” event at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi.
External information activities have also been strengthened through trade promotion and economic cooperation initiatives aimed at improving the investment and business environment and promoting the province’s agricultural products and other goods to domestic and international business communities. Provincial leaders held meetings and exchanges with the Governor of Japan’s Okayama prefecture, the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, and representatives of major corporations and enterprises from Okayama. They also welcomed the Japanese Ambassador, participated in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Local Governments and Friendship Cities Cooperation (Huangshan) Forum in China’s Anhui province, and hosted large working delegations from Finland. The provincial Department of Home Affairs successfully signed a cooperation agreement with a partner from the Republic of Korea to send seasonal workers abroad.
Chieng Khuong commune shares a border with Muong Et and Xiengkhor districts of Laos. According to Nguyen Cong Vien, Chairman of the commune People's Committee, Chieng Khuong has strengthened coordination and information exchange with Muong Et and Xiengkhor districts in Houaphanh province to promptly detect and resolve issues arising in border areas. It has also created favourable conditions for residents of neighbouring border hamlets to visit relatives and support one another in daily life. Furthermore, the commune has assisted Muong Et district in constructing the Youth Park project. At present, Muong Et hosts 17 Vietnamese enterprises investing in agriculture, livestock farming, and commerce, along with 13 retail outlets distributing products from Vietnamese companies.
With the guiding principle of being “accurate, diverse, timely, flexible, and engaging,” Son La province will continue to enhance the role of its network of rapporteurs and communicators at all levels. It will further promote the achievements of foreign affairs, publicise the external activities of the Party, the State, and the province, and introduce the province’s historical traditions, cultural values, economic potential, competitive advantages, and socio-economic development achievements to international friends.
