Two female athletes from Son La province won two golds at the International Taekwondo Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 24-29.

The tournament was jointly organised by the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, the Korean Cultural Centre in Vietnam, and the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen province.

Son La province is home to 12 ethnic groups, each of whom has its own traditional sports, such as “nem con” (cloth ball throwing), “to mak le”, stilt walking, “tu lu” (spinning top game), “nem pao”, stick pushing, and crossbow shooting. These activities are often held during festivals, holidays, and New Year celebrations, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere, and becoming an indispensable part of community life.

As part of the Muong La Cultural Festival 2025, volleyball matches and folk games took place in the commune, drawing a large number of local residents and visitors.

Muong La commune on September 1 organised a running race themed “Muong La on the Move” to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

Muong Gion commune on August 29 organised a running race with the participation of 425 athletes, including local officials, civil servants, workers, and residents.

Son La province’s team, which comprises 20 athletes, won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, ranking 6th out of 14 provinces and cities competing at the third National Youth & Junior Tug of War Championship.

The Thuan Chau Trail Run 2025 took place under the theme “Footprints of Khau Tu” in Thuan Chau commune on August 17. The event was held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – 2025) and the National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025).

The provincial Department of Public Security on August 16 hosted a community run at Tay Bac (Northwest) Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Public Security (August 19, 1945–2025) and the 20th anniversary of the All People's Security Safeguard Festival (August 19, 2005).

Two female Taekwondo artists from Son La province pocketed gold medals at 2025 CJ Vietnam Open, which took place on June 27-28, at the Go Vap district Sports Hall in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Son La Department of Health held its inaugural pickleball tournament on June 28–29, in response to the national campaign “All People Exercise Following the Great Example of Uncle Ho” and to celebrate the successful 22nd Party Congress of the department for the 2025–2030 term.

The Sports Festival 2025 of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) - Region IV, which comprises Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Hoa Binh and Lao Cai, was organised in Son La province on June 20-22.

A short-distance running event was held at Tay Bac Square in Son La city on June 14 morning to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – 2025).
