The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organised the opening ceremony of the Son La tennis and pickleball club tournament 2026 on March 26.
After five days of vibrant competition, the National Youth Weightlifting Championship 2026 wrapped up at the Trade Union Sports Hall in Thao Nguyen ward on March 24. The closing ceremony was co-organised by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation.
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam sports sector’s Traditional Day (March 27, 1946 – 2026) and the 67th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to and meeting with northwestern ethnic communities in Thuan Chau (May 7, 1959 – 2026), on March 22, Thuan Chau commune organised the Olympic Day Run For Public Health and For National Security.
At Tay Bac (Northwest) Square, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the provincial Department of Public Security and the provincial Youth Union, on March 22 launched the Olympic Run for National Security, the “All People Exercise” programme, and the Son La provincial cross-country and half marathon race 2026. Attending the event were leaders of the Vietnam Olympic Committee and representatives of relevant departments and agencies. The programme was accompanied by sponsor Herbalife.
The Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Vietnam Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation, held the opening ceremony of the National Youth Weightlifting Championship 2026 in Thao Nguyen ward on March 20.
The Party Committee of provincial Party Agencies on February 28 held the opening ceremony of a sports tournament celebrating the Party’s founding anniversary and Spring 2026, as well as the successful 14th National Party Congress.
The year 2025 closed with strong and memorable milestones for Son La sports on the achievements map. A running race themed “The Colours of Wild Cherry Blossoms” was held in Cat Linh hamlet, Muong La commune, attracting nearly 800 runners from agencies, units, businesses, schools, and sports clubs across the province.

The Son La Ultra Trail 2025 opened in Ta Xua commune on December 5 with the participation of nearly 1,000 domestic and international runners. The event highlights the province’s growing appeal for adventure sports combined with nature exploration.
The Son La team secured a bronze medal at the National 7-a-side Women’s Football Championship – Carefor Cup 2025, which took place in Hanoi from November 15-22.
Xuan Nha commune currently has 32 volleyball teams and 36 football teams; more than 1,500 people regularly participating in physical training and sports activities, accounting for 15% of the population; and 150 households achieving the “Sports Family” standard.

The event formed part of the National Target Programme on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas .
