Son La Border Guard holds annual meeting with Laos’ Houaphanh Military Command

The Son La Border Guard Command and the Military Command of Laos’ Houaphanh province held their 14th Annual Meeting in 2023 on August 29.

Implementing the border guard cooperation agreement and the meeting minutes, over the past time, units of the two sides have coordinated in encouraging residents to abide by the Protocol on Vietnam-Laos borderline and national border markers. Son La Border Guard units have regularly coordinated with the competent forces of Laos to exchange information about border management and protection, political security, and social order and safety.

 

They have also joined hands to fight against drug-related crimes, smuggling and trade fraud; prevent free migration, unregistered marriage, illegal entry and exit; conduct patrols to protect the borderline and national border markers. They have promoted friendly exchanges, and closely and safely coordinated in the performance of tasks, contributing to building a border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development as well as promoting the tradition of solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Since the beginning of the year, the two sides have organized 23 joint patrols with 528 turns of officers and soldiers participating; carried out immigration procedures for 10,283 turns of people; exit and entry procedures for 82,245 turns of border residents, 4,069 cars, and 47,043 motorbikes.

They have coordinated in providing consultations and professional support to handle 20 cases, arresting 27 individuals and seizing one heroin brick, 49,953 synthetic drug pills, 1.45kg of opium, 2.4 kg of opium poppy, 13 guns and 117 bullets.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed on a number of key contents to be implemented in the coming time, including implementing the border guard cooperation agreement between the Border Guard Command under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the Border Guard Department under the General Staff of the Lao Ministry of National Defence; strengthen the exchange of information about border management and protection.

Representatives of the two sides sign the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation.

 

They will organize joint patrols to protect the borderline and national border markers as well as coordinate in maintaining political security, social order and safety in border areas, thus building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
