The signing ceremony for twinning ties between the Military Commands of Song Ma district and Laos’ Muong Et district.

Every year, the Military Command of Song Ma district advises the district Party Committee and People's Committee to strengthen defence and military cooperation with Laos’ Muong Et district. It directs local militia and reserve forces to join hands with border guard posts to effectively manage and protect the national border, while informing the people about the land border regulations of Vietnam.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Song Ma Military Command, stated that the unit has established a partnership with the Military Command of Muong Et district, regularly exchanging information on defence and security matters, coordinating in building forces and strategies, and exchanging professional expertise. The two sides have organised annual meetings to assess collaboration results and set goals for the upcoming year.

The Military Commands of the border communes have closely monitored the situation, promptly reported on and effectively handled various cases. Since 2024, the two units have exchanged valuable information and coordinated to enable Vietnamese working teams to locate and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives in Laos during the war.

Officers and soldiers of the Muong Cai Border Guard Station and the local militia forces regularly patrol the border.

The Military Command of Song Ma district has proactively proposed the relevant authorities invest in infrastructure and facilities in the border communes and hamlets along the boundary with Muong Et district. Since 2024, the Song Ma Military Command has provided its Lao counterpart with cement and funds to repair facilities. In addition, the military forces of both sides have organised cultural exchanges, art performances, and sports activities.

Furthermore, the Military Command of Song Ma has directed the militia forces of the border communes to collaborate with the Chieng Khuong Border Guard Station, the Muong Cai Border Guard Station, and the Na Ha Border Guard Station in Muong Et district to regularly conduct bilateral patrols of the entire border line and border markers. Song A Sau, Commander of the Military Command of Muong Cai commune, Song Ma district, said that the unit has proactively monitored the local situation, gave advice to the commune's authorities, and coordinated with Muong Cai Border Guard Station to organise patrols, manage the area, clean border markers, and handle individuals who violate the law, contributing to maintaining politics-security and social order in the locality.

The enhanced defence diplomacy between the Military Commands of Song Ma district and Laos’ Muong Et district has contributed to improving the advisory and response capabilities of both units in fulfilling their military and defence tasks. It has helped preserve a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and comprehensive development while fostering the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, particularly between the armed forces of the two provinces and the two districts.
