Production-consumption linkage chain developed for Tan Xuan bamboo shoots

Previously, bamboo shoot production in Tan Xuan commune was fragmented, and people mainly harvested wild bamboo shoots. In May 2020, with funding from the Australian Government, the Centre for Rural Economic Development supported a project on empowering ethnic minority women through the development of a clean bamboo shoot value chain.

Under the project, the Tan Xuan Clean Bamboo Shoot Production and Processing Cooperative was established with eight members, who received training in techniques for growing high-quality bamboo shoots, management, and leadership skills.

The cooperative was invested in a factory, modern drying kilns, and signed a 30-year long-term contract with Yen Thanh Bamboo Company to ensure a stable market. By 2025, the cooperative expanded its raw material area to 147 hectares, producing over 50 tonnes.

This model has provided stable employment for dozens of local women, shifting their economic mindset from wild harvesting to sustainable farming practices.
