Son La facilitates linkages in aquatic production and sales

The People's Committee of Son La province on March 26 held a working session with Vietnam Aquaculture and Seafood Processing JSC (VietFood VN) to discuss a proposed plan for creating a linkage chain for stocking, managing, protecting, harvesting, and selling aquatic products at the Son La hydropower reservoir.

At the working session between the provincial People's Committee and VietFood VN.

The Son La hydropower reservoir, with a watershed area of over 43,400 sq.km and a capacity of over 9.26 billion cu.m of water, offers favourable natural conditions for aquatic farming and holds great potential to become a major aquaculture area of the northwestern region and the entire country. The province currently has around 7,000 fish cages, 20 aquaculture cooperatives, and an estimated annual aquatic output of over 9,000 tonnes.

To create a sustainable link for the production and sale of aquatic products with an annual output of around 7,000 tonnes, and to generate employment for approximately 1,000 workers, VietFood VN proposed building a model that links local residents, authorities, and businesses. In this model, the company will be responsible for providing fish fry, aquaculture techniques, harvesting equipment, and guaranteed product purchase. The total investment for the linkage chain is estimated at around 60 billion VND (2.35 million USD).

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong expressed the province’s support for the investor's proposals. He requested relevant departments and agencies gather feedback and finalise an implementation plan for submission to the competent authorities for approval. The plan-making process must take into account environmental impacts, effectiveness, and a balance of benefits between the authorities, the business, and local people.
