Son La, home to over 85,000 hectares of fruit and son tra (docynia indica) trees, expects an output of around 510,000 tonnes in 2025. Local authorities are rolling out a series of concerted solutions to improve product value and expand distribution channels for agricultural goods.

Total revenue from passenger, cargo and transport services in Son La province reached over 2.05 trillion VND (78.4 million USD), up 12.76% year-on-year.

With 11 chapters and seven member organisations comprising a total of 859 members, the provincial Business Association is gradually establishing a business-linked support ecosystem aimed at boosting production and trade. Phieng Khoai commune has nearly 2,800 hectares of plum trees, of which 2,450 hectares are being harvested, with an output of 26,500 tonnes of fruit.

In recent years, Muong Sai commune, Son La province, has actively encouraged residents to convert less efficient areas of corn and cassava cultivation into fruit orchards.

Ta Hoc commune in Son La province is shifting crop and livestock structures with a view to raising its average per capita income to 30 million VND (1,148 USD) per year.

Chieng Mai commune, Son La province, now has over 11,000 head of livestock and nearly 300,000 poultry of various types.

The total retail sales of goods in Son La province in the first six months of the year surpassed 20.4 trillion VND (781.2 million USD), marking a 13.62% increase compared to the same period last year.

As of June, total capital mobilisation in Son La province reached 40 trillion VND, up 4.3% compared to the same period in 2024, while total outstanding loans hit 51 trillion VND (1.95 billion USD), a 14.8% increase year-on-year.

Nearly 13,200 hectares of spring rice have been planted across Son La province, primarily with the sticky rice varieties of 87, 97, BC15, and 86, and several non-glutinous types.

The province currently has 21 aquaculture value chains, with 2,939 fish cages and rafts operating on the Son La hydropower reservoir. The total aquaculture area reaches 2,961 hectares, including 2,955 hectares dedicated to fish farming.

After more than a decade of taking root in Phieng Khoai commune, Yen Chau district, the Tai Nung pear is now bringing strong economic benefits to local residents. At this time of year, the hillsides are bustling with harvest activity. Motorbikes and trucks weave through hamlets, carrying with them the joy of a season blessed with both a bountiful crop and good prices.

Son La City Post Office on June 24 supported the sale of 1.5 tonnes of Bac Giang lychee under the programme "Accompanying and supporting farmers in selling local agricultural products" launched by the Vietnam Post Corporation.

The project to improve livelihoods of ethnic minorities through agriculture and improve nutrition in Son La province, funded by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Save the Children International (SIC) in Vietnam, has brought practical results, benefiting women and children in ethnic minority areas after two years of implementation.
