Workshop seeks to develop fruit tree areas, safe value chains

The Vietnam Agricultural Extension Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Son La province, organised a community agricultural extension workshop in developing fruit tree areas and safe crop value chains in the northern mountainous region in Moc Chau district on September 27.

The effective operation of community-based agricultural extension groups is a new requirement in the national target programme on new-style rural area building for the 2021-2025 period with a goal of promoting the role of the agricultural extension system in developing agricultural production, creating jobs, increasing income, and improving the lives of farmers in new-style rural communes.

Delegates exchange views on community-based agricultural extension activities.

After more than one year of implementation, in 13 target provinces of the project, 26 pilot groups with a total of 168 members and 562 expanded ones with 4,276 members have been established. Five raw material areas have been formed, including the northern mountainous fruit tree area (Hoa Binh, Son La); the certified forest wood plantation area in the central coastal region (Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue), the Central Highlands coffee area (Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Kon Tum), the Long Xuyen quadrilateral rice area (Kien Giang, An Giang), and the Dong Thap Muoi fruit tree area (Dong Thap, Tien Giang, Long An).

Implementing the project, Son La province has established two pilot groups with 14 members in Mai Son and Thuan Chau districts.

At the workshop, participants focused on discussing the results of community-based agricultural extension activities in raw material areas and safe crop value chains, and community-based agricultural extension associated with the central-level agricultural extension project to serve the development of standard fruit tree areas.
