Chieng La recognised as new-style rural area

The People’s Committee of Thuan Chau district held a ceremony on January 19 to announce a decision of the Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee recognising Chieng La commune as meeting new-style rural area building standards in 2023.

A leader of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development presents a certificate recognising Chieng La commune as meeting new-style rural area building standards.

Chieng La has six hamlets with 702 households. Over the past years, with the engagement of the entire political system and the support of local people, the new-style rural area building programme has seen positive results. During the process, the commune received nearly 21.4 billion VND (871,690 USD) from the State, and nearly 1 billion VND contributed by local residents to build infrastructure. As a result, 90% of inter-hamlet roads have been cemented, while 10 irrigational works have been put into use, ensuring irrigation for 64 hectares of agricultural land.

Effective economic models such as growing organic coffee and rice have been replicated. Every year, the commune maintains intensive cultivation of 254 hectares of grain crops, takes care of 104 hectares of fruit trees and 37.5 hectares of coffee trees, and raises more than 2,000 cattle heads. Through job consultations, more than 700 locals are working in industrial parks inside and outside the province.

Head of the provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Dinh Thi Bich Thao presents gifts to Chieng La commune.

Last year, the commune’s average annual per capita income reached 42 million VND, and the poverty rate fell to 12.3%. Up to 99.5% of households had houses meeting standards. All six hamlets were recognised as cultural hamlets, and 100% households gained access to the national power grid. Some 70% of domestic and non-hazardous solid waste were collected and treated in accordance with regulations. As of the end of 2023, the commune had met 19 new-style rural building criteria.
