Construction begins on inter-provincial road linking Son La and Lai Chau

Son La province on July 29 broke ground on Provincial Road 107C connecting Muong Chien commune in Son La to Nam So commune in neighbouring Lai Chau province.

The project, launched in Muong Chien, forms part of Son La’s key infrastructure agenda to mark the upcoming 16th provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term.

Attending the ceremony were Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Le Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; along with officials from various provincial departments.

The road is built to Grade V mountainous road standards, with a total length of 21 kilometers. The project includes upgrading 8.9 kilometers of the existing route and constructing 12.1 kilometers of new road.

The roadbed will be 6.5 meters wide, with a 3.5-meter-wide paved surface made of crushed stone topped with an asphalt seal coat. The project also features culverts, retaining walls, and other components to ensure traffic safety.

Once completed, the road will serve as a vital transport axis linking Son La and Lai Chau provinces, facilitating trade, promoting tourism around the Son La hydropower reservoir, supporting the development of concentrated material zones, and contributing to the fulfillment of new-style rural development criteria.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minh urged relevant agencies to accelerate site clearance, follow directions closely, and manage investment capital in line with regulations.

He called on contractors and supervising consultants to take a serious approach to construction, mobilise manpower and modern equipment, and ensure timely completion to meet public expectations.
