Decision to merge Son La Newspaper and Son La Radio & Television Station announced

The provincial Party Committee held a conference on June 16 to announce a decision to merge and reorganise Son La Newspaper and Son La Radio & Television Station to form new Son La Newspaper, which operates under the provincial Party Committee; along with decisions on personnel transfers, assignments and appointments.

An overview of the conference.

Attending the event were Lo Minh Hung, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Trang Thi Xuan, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People's Committee, among others.

At the conference, Nguyen Duc Thanh, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial Party Committee's Organisation Board, announced Decision No. 1462-QD/TU, issued on June 3, 2025 by the provincial Party Committee on the merger and reorganisation of Son La Newspaper and Son La Radio and Television Station into a new entity named Son La Newspaper, directly under the provincial Party Committee.

Son La Newspaper will officially begin operating under the new model from July 1, 2025, as a public service unit under the provincial Party Committee. It comprises seven specialised departments, including Office; Department of Editorial Secretariat; Reporters’ Department; Electronics and Digital Content Department; Technology Department; Ethnic and Foreign Language Department; and Arts and Entertainment Department. After the merger and reorganisation, the newspaper is expected to have 114 staff members.

At the conference, the decisions of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board on the personnel transfers, reassignments and appointments were also announced. Accordingly, La Minh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of the old Son La Newspaper, has been assigned to continue holding the position of Editor-in-Chief after the merger and reorganisation. Nguyen Truong Chinh, Director of Son La Radio & Television Station, has been appointed Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Son La Newspaper. Nguyen Thanh Hai and Le Huy Ngoan, who are Deputy Editors-in-Chief of Son La Newspaper, and Dam Xuan Phuong, Deputy Director of Son La Radio & Television Station, have been appointed Deputy Editors-in-Chief of the new newspaper.

Congratulating and acknowledging the significant contributions of the staffs from both Son La Newspaper and Son La Radio & Television Station in recent times, Hung requested that the newly-merged Son La Newspaper promptly implement tasks and work plans in accordance with the new organisational structure to avoid disruptions or delays.

He urged the development of working regulations and monthly work programmes for the remainder of 2025 to ensure the full implementation of the agency’s new functions and duties. Once workspaces are stabilised, proposals should be made to the provincial authorities regarding investment in the renovation and upgrading of Son La Newspaper’s headquarters to match the new organisational model.

He also called on all officials, Party members, civil servants, and employees of the newspaper to continue promoting the revolutionary spirit, overcoming difficulties for the common good, and working together to propel the development of the agency.
