The Chieng Dong Water Supply Plant and its clean water transmission pipeline system are invested by Son La Water Supply Joint Stock Company, with a total investment of 260.4 billion VND (9.9 million USD). It has a designed capacity of 14,000 cubic meters per day.

The plant is to be built on an area of approximately 1.2 hectares in Xum hamlet, with a full range of synchronised facilities including water treatment systems, storage tanks, electrical, chemical and sludge treatment systems, and notably raw water pipelines, transmission pipelines, and a clean water distribution network. The system will interconnect To Hieu, Chieng Coi, and Chieng Sinh wards, and Chieng Mung and Mai Son communes.

It is expected to address water shortages and provide clean water meeting national standards to tens of thousands of households in the former Son La city and the former Mai Son area. It will serve residential areas, service establishments, production facilities, and industrial zones, significantly improving the living environment, enhancing public health, and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development across the project area.

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Cha A Cua speaks at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Cha A Cua requested that the project investor mobilise all available resources to accelerate construction progress while ensuring technical quality, labour safety, and environmental hygiene throughout the construction process. He emphasised the need to complete and put the project into operation as soon as possible to meet local residents’ needs.

He also called for effective management and operation of the project to ensure clean water quality and supply capacity that meet both current and future domestic and production-business demands.

The Party Committee of the provincial People’s Committee was asked to direct relevant departments and agencies to closely coordinate, create the most favourable conditions, and promptly address difficulties and obstacles arising during project implementation.

Local Party committees and authorities in project areas were urged to strengthen communication to gain public consensus and support, facilitate site clearance, ensure security and order at construction sites, and promote efficient use of water resources.
