Houses handed over to people affected by flash floods and landslides

Military Region 2 under the Ministry of National Defence, in coordination with Son La province, held a ceremony in Dua hamlet, Chieng So commune on September 25 to inaugurate and hand over houses to residents who suffered damage from flash floods and landslides.

Attending the event were Major General Nguyen Van Xuan, Deputy Commander of Military Region 2; Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and head of the provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies; Vi Duc Tho, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; and leaders from the provincial Military Command and Department of Public Security.

Severe flooding and landslides at the end of July and beginning of August affected Huoi Mot, Chieng So, Bo Sinh, Muong Lam, Bo Sinh, Muong Lan, and Sop Cop communes, resulting in six deaths and damage or destruction to 318 houses. Many roads were also eroded or damaged.

Since August 8, Division 316 of Military Region 2, the provincial Military Command, along with militia forces, police, mass organisations, and local residents have contributed a total of 22,915 workdays to build 52 new houses, relocate 205 households, and repair 61 houses as assigned by the Military Region 2 Command, provincial Party Committee, and provincial People’s Committee. By September 25, the task had been completed and all houses had been handed over to the people, achieving 100% of the set plan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Van Xuan emphasised that with high spirit and responsibility, all forces overcame many difficulties, working together with unity to construct, relocate, and repair homes for the people according to the set schedule. This action reflects the responsibility and deep affection of the military for the people.

Nguyen Dinh Viet, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, expressed his gratitude for the close leadership and guidance from the Party, the State, the Ministry of National Defence, and Military Region 2; as well as the effective coordination from departments, agencies, and units, and the contributions from local authorities and residents. He also encouraged the people to continue promoting the spirit of self-reliance and resilience and striving for economic development.

The certificates of merit from Military Region 2 and the Chairman of the Son La provincial People's Committee are awarded to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in flood prevention and disaster recovery. 

In recognition of outstanding achievements in flood prevention and disaster recovery, the Minister of National Defence awarded the certificates of merit to two collectives and four individuals. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee presented the certificates of merit to 18 collectives and 26 individuals.
