Military Region 2 under the Ministry of National Defence in coordination with Son La province launched construction and repairs of homes damaged by natural disasters in Dua Cat hamlet, Chieng So commune, on August 9.

Housing construction and repairs begin for Son La residents affected by natural disasters.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Major General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 2; Vi Duc Tho, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; and Le Hong Minh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; among others.

Following the Prime Minister’s conclusion and directions from the Ministry of National Defence, Military Region 2 partnered with Son La province to roll out a housing support programme for those severely affected by floods.

The plan includes building new homes for 52 families who lost their houses, urgently relocating 279 households, and repairing 90 severely damaged homes across Chieng So, Huoi Mot, Muong Lan, Sop Cop, Bo Sinh, and Muong Lam communes.

The first phase will begin with the construction of 52 new houses, expected to be completed by September. The remaining 279 new homes due to relocation and repairs on 90 damaged houses will continue in the second phase.

The new houses meet the standards of solid foundation, sturdy frame, and durable roof, with a minimum area of 56 square metres and a height ranging from 3.6 to 3.9 metres. Each newly built house receives a support fund of 100 million VND (3,813 USD), while repaired homes are granted 30 million VND. Funding comes from the provincial Relief Mobilisation Committee and other legal sources.

Officers and soldiers assist locals in building homes.

To ensure progress, Military Region 2 assigned the provincial Military Command to coordinate the implementation plan, guaranteeing transparency and preventing wastefulness. Construction will strictly follow safety standards, while public communication efforts will be intensified to build consensus among residents.
