Inauguration of Son La wastewater treatment system scheduled for August 19

Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, on August 8 chaired a working session with the provincial ODA Project Management Unit to review preparations for the upcoming inauguration of the Son La city drainage and wastewater treatment system.

Also in attendance were Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Hong Minh, leaders of provincial departments, agencies, and Chieng An ward.

The project, funded by official development assistance (ODA) from the German Government, has a total adjusted investment capital of 923.4 billion VND ($35.2 million) and has been implemented over the 2012-2025 period.

Key components include a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 6,857 cu/m per day, seven pumping stations with capacities ranging from 67 to 780.98 cu.m per hour; a sewer network (primary, secondary, and tertiary) and pressure pipelines with a total length of 75.2 km; connections for approximately 8,900 households to the tertiary sewer system; upgrades to 2.5 km of stormwater drainage systems; and rehabilitation of 8.3 km of urban roads.

All components of the project have been completed and are now operational, meeting set objectives and delivering tangible investment efficiency. The provincial ODA Project Management Unit has been designated as the facility’s operations manager.

The official inauguration ceremony is scheduled for August 19 at the wastewater treatment plant in Tong hamlet, Chieng An ward.

At a working session with the management unit following the field inspection, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Viet emphasised that the project inauguration represents not only a significant political and social event but also a crucial step in developing sustainable, environmentally friendly urban infrastructure in Son La. He instructed the unit to continue working closely with relevant departments to make the best preparations for the event.
