Making active and practical contributions, enhancing friendship and cooperation

At the invitation of Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives and President of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Puan Maharani and Speaker of the Iranian Consultative Assembly Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue will attend the 44th General Assembly of the AIPA (AIPA-44) and pay official visits to Indonesia and Iran.

Since becoming an official member of AIPA in September 1995, Vietnamese NA has made proactive, active and responsible contributions, along with the parliaments of member countries, to strengthen the central role, solidarity and unity of ASEAN, boost intra-regional cooperation, and expand relations with parliaments of countries in the region, while also promoting the responsibility and role of AIPA in the peace, stability, and development of ASEAN and the world.

Joining AIPA, Vietnam has persistently and skilfully integrated and promoted the concerns and priorities of the country, and launched many initiatives that were highly appreciated by member parliaments.

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic ties on December 30, 1955. Indonesia was the first country in Southeast Asia to establish relations with Vietnam, while Vietnam is Indonesia's only strategic partner. The relations between the two countries have developed well and stably. The high-level contacts have been maintained.

Indonesia ranks 30th in the world and 5th in ASEAN in terms of investment in Vietnam. The defence and security cooperation has been strengthened as the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on defence, crime, and terrorism. The National Assembly of Vietnam and the House of Representatives of Indonesia signed a bilateral cooperation agreement and strengthened consultation and coordination of positions at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

Since Vietnam and Iran established diplomatic relations on August 4, 1973, the friendship and cooperation between the two countries has seen strong development. The two sides have maintained contact, exchanged delegations, and supported each other at multilateral forums. In terms of economics, the two countries agreed to create favourable conditions for their business communities to cooperate, towards bringing bilateral trade turnover to 2 billion USD. The two sides signed cooperation agreements on security, defence, education-training, science-technology, culture, tourism, and cooperation between localities. The cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of the two countries is an important basis for the practical and effective cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

The AIPA-44 will be held in Indonesia in the context that the world economy continues to recover after the pandemic and the transition process takes place strongly, but the political and security situation reports many complicated developments. The Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions are developing dynamically, with Southeast Asia expected to soon return as a driving force for global economic growth. ASEAN continues to uphold solidarity and enhance its centrality, towards striving to complete the 2025 Master Plan and prepare for a new stage of development with the ASEAN Community Vision after 2025.

The attendance of the high-ranking delegation of Vietnamese NA led by Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue at the 44th General Assembly of the AIPA affirms that Vietnamese NA has actively and substantively contributed to AIPA's activities, work together with the AIPA’s member parliaments to strengthen solidarity and central role of ASEAN, and strengthen relations between AIPA and partners. Attending AIPA-44 also contributes to further boosting cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and parliaments of member countries and observers of AIPA, and sharing common concerns about peace, stability, and development.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue pays official visits to Indonesia and Iran in a special context as Vietnam and Indonesia celebrate the 10th founding anniversary of their strategic partnership, and Vietnam and Iran celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. The welcome from Indonesia and Iran for NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue shows their respect and support for Vietnam and the desire to create a new impetus for bilateral relations.

The visit makes an important contribution to consolidating political trust, enhancing multi-faceted cooperation, and strengthening a deeper and more practical Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia. The visit also contributes to promoting Vietnam-Iran friendship and cooperation in terms of politics, diplomacy, economics, culture, education, science-technology, and local cooperation in the new period.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue’s trip to attend the AIPA-44 and officials visits to Indonesia and Iran continue to implement the 13th National Party Congress’ foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, development, multilateralisation and diversification of foreign relations, comprehensive and deep international integration in a proactive and active manner, and elevation of multilateral external relations.

The trip affirms Vietnam always actively participates and responsibly contributes to the international community towards bringing greater depth and substance to the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and Vietnam-Iran friendship and cooperation.
