Provincial Party leader inspects situation in Chieng Khuong commune

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial delegation of National Assembly deputies Hoang Van Nghiem on January 11 led a working delegation to review the socio-economic development and inspected the progress of projects in Chieng Khuong commune.

Accompanying him were Nguyen Duc Thanh, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and head of the committee’s Organisation Board; and Chu Van Thanh, member of the Standing Board of the Provincial Party Committee and Commander of the provincial Military Command.

The provincial Party chief and the delegation conducted a field survey at Chieng Khuong Border Gate, assessing the potential for infrastructure upgrading and planning, and the development of a temporary gathering area for imported goods at the border gate. Accordingly, Chieng Khuong Border Gate holds an important position in trade between Son La province and the northern provinces of Laos. In recent times, import-export activities through the border gate have shown positive changes, with increasing volumes of transport vehicles and traded goods. In 2025, total import-export turnover reached 8.2 million USD.

The delegation also inspected the construction progress of the Primary and Secondary Boarding School project in Chieng Khuong commune. The project covers an area of 5 hectares and includes 13 main items and auxiliary facilities. The policy of building the school has received strong support from local residents; and implementation conditions have been generally favourable and in line with standards and technical regulations. To date, the contractor has carried out site leveling, foundation excavation, and concrete pouring for the foundations of several facilities such as classrooms, administrative building, boarding house, library, and swimming pool.

At the visited locations, Secretary Nghiem requested Chieng Khuong commune to continue reviewing and suggesting plans and policies to invest in the development of the border-gate economy; to provide solutions supporting enterprises with land for the storage and transportation of imported goods; and to ensure progress in the formulation and adjustment of border-gate planning in a synchronised and systematic manner.

This planning should meet development requirements in the new period, be consistent with the reality of increasingly active import–export operations, and create room for investment in technical infrastructure, logistics services, border trade, and essential functional facilities, aiming to upgrade Chieng Khuong Border Gate from a main border gate to an international one, he said.

Regarding the Primary and Secondary Boarding School project in Chieng Khuong commune, the provincial Party leader asked construction units to mobilise maximum machinery and manpower, coordinate with relevant departments and sectors, focus on removing difficulties to accelerate construction progress, ensure quality, absolute safety during implementation, and complete the project according to the set schedule.
