Provincial Party official visits agricultural cooperatives in Son La city

Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung and a working delegation on February 19 visited to grasp the situation of some agricultural cooperatives in Son La city.

Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung visits the vegetable growing model of the Son La Agricultural Cooperative.

Visiting the Son La Agricultural Cooperative, which is expanding a specialized area for safe vegetable production in Chieng Ban commune, Mai Son district, Hung appreciated the cooperative's efforts in intensive farming of 15 hectares of vegetables meeting VietGAP standards, yielding 400 - 600 tonnes per year, ensuring a stable monthly income of 7-9 million VND (285-367 USD) per member.

They also visited the Bich Thao Coffee Cooperative in Hua La commune; the An Phu Agricultural Cooperative in Chieng An ward; and the project on building a model to improve livelihoods through agricultural tourism introduction activities of Japan’s NPO International Farmers Participation Technical Network (IFPaT) in Group 4, Chieng An ward.

In 2023, Son La city established eight more cooperatives, bringing the total number of cooperatives to nearly 60, of them over 30 operating in the agricultural sector.

After visiting the models and cooperatives, Hung requested the provincial departments and agencies as well as Son La city’s leaders create favourable conditions, and remove difficulties for production activities of agricultural cooperatives.

They were urged to support, research, and replicate effective economic models; promote the application of science and technology in production and product processing, and introduce new varieties suitable to climate and soil conditions, thus improving productivity and value; and increase trade promotion activities, contributing to increasing income for members and associated households.
