Son La, Laos’ Luang Prabang province exchange experience in combating cross-border crime

The People’s Procuracy of Son La province and its counterpart from Laos’ Luang Prabang province held talks in Son La city on May 22 to exchange experience in combating cross-border crime.

The two sides shared updates on their respective provinces’ socio-economic development, national defence and security, as well as the operations of each procuracy.

They agreed to further deepen and expand their traditional relationship, effectively implement signed cooperation agreements, and step up the exchange of experience in combating cross-border crime.

The two sides sign a cooperation document.

At the talks, the two sides signed minutes, agreeing to strengthen coordination in implementing cooperation documents signed between the Prosecutors General of the Supreme People’s Procuracies of Vietnam and Laos.

They committed to exchanging experience and information on combating crime and controlling cross-border drug trafficking.

They will also enhance information sharing on issues arising in the border areas of both countries to promptly coordinate in resolving difficulties, and improving the effectiveness of the crime combat.

The parties consented to effectively implement the judicial assistance agreement on civil and criminal matters between Vietnam and Laos; and facilitate and coordinate well whenever either side requests judicial assistance.

They will continue to strictly follow the foreign policies set by the two Parties and States, while efforts will be made to strengthen advisory work for local Party committees and authorities to effectively handle border security issues, and maintain mutual visits, working sessions, as well as experience exchanges on a rotating basis when conditions permit.

Both sides agreed that the Luang Prabang People’s Procuracy will host the next talks in 2027.
