Son La province determined to complete eradication of substandard houses

Son La province has defined the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses as a political task of the entire Party Organisation, authorities, armed forces, and people of all ethnic groups in the province in 2025, said the provincial chairman.

Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and deputy head of the provincial Steering Committee for the Eradication of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses, made the statement while chairing a meeting of the committee on January 24 to assess the implementation results in January and launch tasks for the upcoming period.

Attending the meeting were Trang Thi Xuan, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People's Committee; members of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board, leaders from provincial departments, agencies, and districts, Son La city, as well as members of the Steering Committee.

There are still 2,837 households in the province in need of housing support in 2025, including 216 families of people who rendered service to the nation; 343 under national target programmes; and 2,278 mentioned in Notification No. 523/TB-VPCP dated November 16, 2024, from the Government Office.

With the efforts of the entire political system, by January 22, 2025, the districts and Son La city had completed the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses for 351 households, including 280 with newly built homes and 71 with repaired houses. It is estimated that by January 28 (the 29th day of the last lunar month), the province will have supported the construction or repair of 431 houses, with a total budget of over 21.9 billion VND (873,205 USD).

Many districts have exceeded their targets by more than 250% to 300%. Thuan Chau district has completed 74 new and repaired houses; Mai Son, 64 newly built houses; Muong La, 54; Van Ho, 50; and Son Ma, 35.

Between now and May 19, the entire province needs to support the construction of 2,112 new houses and the repair of 294 houses, with a required budget of over 135 billion VND.

Speaking at the meeting, Viet emphasised the need to further strengthen the leadership of the Party committees and organisations, and governments at all levels, as well as the active participation of Vietnam Fatherland Front committees, socio-political organisations, armed forces, and the people in popularising and implementing the task of eradicating substandard houses in the province.

He affirmed that the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025 is a political task of the entire Party, authorities, armed forces, and the people of all ethnic groups in the province. The steering committees for eradicating temporary houses in districts and Son La city should focus on leading and directing the implementation of tasks from the beginning of the year, with the determination to complete the eradication of temporary and dilapidated houses in the province before May 19.
