Son La speeds up appraisal of ethnic minority area classification

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dang Ngoc Hau on December 22 chaired a meeting of the appraisal council and its support team to review progress in implementing Government Decree 272/2025/ND-CP dated October 16, 2025, which classifies ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2026–2030 period.

At the meeting reviewing progress in implementing Government Decree 272/2025/ND-CP dated October 16, 2025, which classifies ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2026–2030 period.

Pursuant to Decision 3091/QD-UBND dated December 3, 2025 of the provincial People’s Committee Chairman on the establishment of the appraisal council and support team to assess the classification of hamlets and communes in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, including the designation of especially disadvantaged hamlets and communes in Areas I, II and III, provincial departments and agencies have issued guidance to communes on evaluating and scoring criteria in line with regulations.

Council members conducted on-site inspections or reviewed progress through reports and online meetings with the communes assigned to them. Based on sectoral guidance, they advised local authorities on reviewing and scoring criteria, while addressing bottlenecks to the process. As of December 22, 2025, 63 of the 75 communes and wards had submitted their review and classification results to the support team. Preliminary tallies show five communes and wards are classified as Area I, six as Area II, and 52 communes as Area III.

A representative of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs speaks at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Hau urged council members to act within their respective mandates to complete the appraisal on schedule. He called for expedited data collection to calculate per-capita averages in localities where figures remain incomplete, a review and cross-check against the criteria set to align assessments with on-the-ground conditions, and closer supervision and support for communes to finalise documentation and scoring in line with Government Decree 272/2025/ND-CP.
