Son La speeds up preparations for construction of inter-level boarding schools in border communes

Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and head of the provincial Delegation to the National Assembly Nguyen Dinh Viet on August 22 chaired an online meeting to review and expedite investment preparations for the construction of inter-level primary and secondary boarding schools in border communes.

At the meeting reviewing and urging the preparation work for building inter-level primary and secondary boarding schools in border communes.

Attending the meeting were Trang Thi Xuan, member of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People's Committee, as well as leaders of relevant departments and sectors. The meeting was connected online to 13 border communes in the province.

In accordance with the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 81-KL/TW on the policy of investing in school construction for border communes, Son La province is mobilising resources to build inter-level primary and secondary boarding schools in 13 border communes. Among these, 11 are new constructions and two involve renovation and upgrades.

Each school is designed to accommodate over 1,000 students, with modern and comprehensive facilities that meet the boarding and semi-boarding needs of students in remote and mountainous areas. So far, the province has commenced construction of the Inter-level Primary and Secondary Boarding School in Phieng Khoai commune.

At the meeting, the provincial chairman assigned the Department of Finance to advise on the establishment of a Steering Committee and to develop a detailed project implementation plan. While awaiting guidance from the central authorities, communes are to continue reviewing and finalising planning, and preparing all necessary conditions.

The Department of Construction is tasked with assisting communes in selecting consulting units. For communes facing difficulties in determining school locations, it is necessary to closely coordinate with relevant departments and sectors to promptly reach a consensus and complete procedures. Construction must commence no later than October 30, 2025, for the inter-level primary and secondary boarding schools in the border communes, he stressed.
