Attending the working session were Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association; leaders of provincial departments and agencies; and leaders of the People’s Committees of Ta Xua, Bac Yen, Ngoc Chien and Van Ho communes, and Moc Chau, Moc Son and Thao Nguyen wards.
In recent years, tourism has made an important contribution to the economic growth of Son La province. Tourist areas and attractions such as the Moc Chau National Tourist Area, the Son La hydropower reservoir area, Ta Xua, and community-based tourism villages in Ngoc Chien and Van Ho have continued to be popular destinations for visitors.
In the first two months of 2026, the province welcomed nearly 1.3 million visitors, with total revenue estimated at over 1.5 trillion VND (57 million USD).
At the working session, delegates focused on discussing a number of key issues, including continued research and issuance of policies to support tourism development in the province, assessment of tourism resources, and development of community-based tourism.
Both sides also exchanged views on future cooperation between the Son La provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Tourism Association. Notably, a proposal was made for the province to host Visit Vietnam Year and Vietnam Travel Day. This is seen as an opportunity to promote the province’s tourism image, potential and strengths, creating momentum for the next phase of development.
Speaking at the working session, the Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association emphasised that Son La has significant potential and advantages for tourism development, and therefore should focus on researching and formulating appropriate policies to promote sustainable growth of the sector.
He highlighted the need to develop tourism development policies suited to new conditions following administrative mergers; to create distinctive and competitive tourism products; to improve both the quantity and quality of human resources; and to implement strategies for promotion, marketing and business connectivity.
The Vietnam Tourism Association also pledged to accompany and support the province in policy consultation, contributing to the sustainable development of Son La’s tourism in the coming period.
Concluding the working session, the Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee proposed that the Vietnam Tourism Association continue to accompany and support the province in tourism development, particularly in policy consultation and advisory roles; assisting local tourism enterprises in accessing green tourism and sustainable development models; giving advice on the development of tourism products; and supporting the training of professional tourism human resources, from local residents to businesses across the province.
