Vice President of Lao National Assembly visits Son La province

Senior Lieutenant General Suvon Luongbunmi, Vice President of the Lao National Assembly, led a delegation to pay a working visit to Son La province on April 23.

Accompanying the delegation were representatives from agencies and units under the Lao National Assembly; Major General Vu Xuan Hung, full-time member of the National Assembly's Committee for National Defence, Security, and Foreign Affairs; and Major General Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Commander of Military Region 4.

The delegation was hosted by provincial leaders, including Hoang Quoc Khanh, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Lo Minh Hung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and head of the provincial Delegation to the National Assembly; among others.

In an atmosphere of special friendship and solidarity, Khanh expressed his pleasure in welcoming Suvon Luongbunmi and the Lao delegation to visit and work in Son La. He emphasised that the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos is a priceless asset nurtured by generations of the two nations.

He thanked the Party, Government, and National Assembly of Laos, and especially the Vice President of the Lao NA, for their continuous attention and support in fostering the close relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Son La province and Lao localities.

During the meeting, Viet provided an overview of the province’s socio-economic development, its cooperation with Lao provinces, and the supervision activities of the provincial People’s Council.

Since 2022, Son La province has signed 25 cooperation agreements across various levels and sectors with Lao counterparts. The province has maintained close coordination with authorities and border guard forces of Houaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces, effectively conducting joint patrols to safeguard border security, particularly in combating drug-related crimes and threats to national security.

Senior Lieutenant General Suvon Luongbunmi expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm and respectful welcome from Son La leaders and congratulated the province on its achievements across sectors. He highly valued Son La’s support to Lao provinces in recent years.

He expressed his hope that Son La would continue to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between the two NAs, as well as outcomes of bilateral meetings and discussions. He also called for continued exchange of experiences in enhancing the activities of the provincial Delegation to the NA and the provincial People’s Council, especially in national defence, border security, administrative streamlining, infrastructure development, and addressing local people's difficulties.

He encouraged continued cooperation with Lao provinces for comprehensive development in all fields, contributing to strengthening the great relationship between the Parties, States, and people of Vietnam and Laos.
