Son La wins big at folk cultural performance competition

An art troupe from Son La province bagged two gold and three silver medals at the folk cultural performance competition for ethnic groups, which wrapped up in the central province of Quang Ngai on August 4.

The five-day competition, co-organised by the Department of Grassroots Culture under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Quang Ngai, drew the participation of 24 troupes of artisans from provinces and cities nationwide.

Son La province’s artisans and artists joined an art parade, and introduced the Mong ethnic culture through folk games and Tha Khenh, a  typical dance of the Mong ethnic people in Van Ho district. They also performed traditional rituals, as well as folk songs and dances, and introduced the Mong ethnic group’s cuisine and costumes.

The “Tu su” ritual of the Mong Hoa ethnic group in Tu Nang commune, Yen Chau district, is performed at the competition.

At the end of the competition, the Son La troupe brought home two gold medals for the performance “Tu su”, a ritual of the Mong Hoa ethnic group in Tu Nang commune, Yen Chau district, and a Khen (panpipe) performance, along with three silver medals for the performances of “Bai ca tren  nui” (Song on the mountain), “Ru con” (Lullaby) and “Nguoi Mong on Dang – Theo Dang xuong nui” (The Mong people grateful to the Party - Following the Party down the mountain). The Mong ethnic cuisine also won the second prize.

The cuisine of the Mong ethnic group in Son La province is introduced at the competition.
