Houaphanh delegation visits, extends New Year greetings to Son La province

A delegation from Laos’ Houaphanh province led by Khonpaphan Luongsichanthong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, paid a visit and extended New Year greetings to Son La province on February 2.

Receiving the delegation were Hoang Van Nghiem, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and head of the provincial delegation of National Assembly deputies; Vi Duc Tho, member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; and Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

Khonpaphan congratulated the successful 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and congratulated Hoang Van Nghiem, Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee, on his election as a member of the Party Central Committee. He expressed his confidence that Son La province would continue to achieve even greater accomplishments and further nurture the solidarity and friendship between Laos and Vietnam, as well as between Houaphanh and Son La provinces, making this relationship increasingly strong and substantive.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026, the Houaphanh leader extended his best wishes to the leaders of the Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the armed forces, and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province.

Nghiem thanked Khonpaphan and the Houaphanh delegation for visiting and extending New Year greetings to the Party Organisation, authorities, and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province. He also provided an overview of Son La’s socio-economic development, national defence and security, Party building, and the strengthening of the political system in 2025, as well as cooperation between Son La and Lao provinces across various fields.

In 2025, Son La received 50 students from Houaphanh province, bringing the total number of the Lao province’s students studying at training institutions in Son La to 128. The armed forces of both sides have closely coordinated in maintaining public order, security, and border security, contributing to the strengthening of the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos. He expressed his belief that in the coming time, the special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and friendship between the two provinces will continue to flourish.
