Xaysomboun delegation visits, extends New Year greetings to Son La province

A working delegation from Laos’ Xaysomboun province led by Thongvan Thammacong, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and head of the Organisation Commission of Xaysomboun province, on January 28 paid a courtesy visit and extended New Year greetings to Son La province.

Receiving the delegation were Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, and representatives of several provincial departments and agencies.

The delegation from Laos’ Xaysomboun province extends New Year greetings to Son La province.

On behalf of the leaders of Son La province, Viet warmly welcomed the delegation from Xaysomboun province and briefed them on several outstanding achievements of Son La in 2025 across various sectors. 

Accordingly, the province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) at constant prices increased by 8.03% in 2025; state budget revenue reached 5.6 trillion VND (214.85 million USD); and the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector developed in a more concentrated and sustainable direction, with increased application of high technology and mechanisation in production.

Regarding cooperation between the two provinces, Son La is currently hosting 126 students from Xaysomboun studying at local educational institutions. The two provinces regularly exchange information, organise delegations, and share experience in areas of mutual interest.

The leaders of Son La and Xaysomboun provinces exchange information on 2025 results and cooperation plans for the coming period.

On behalf of the Xaysomboun delegation, Thongvan expressed his sincere thanks for the warm and respectful reception extended by the leaders of Son La province and congratulated the province on its achievements across various fields. He highly appreciated Son La’s support for Xaysomboun over recent years and expressed his hope that Son La would continue to strengthen cooperation in all areas, especially in education, agriculture, and agricultural processing, thereby further consolidating the friendship and cooperation between the two provinces.

Thanking the Xaysomboun delegation for the visit and New Year greetings, Viet expressed his wish that the two provinces would continue to promote comprehensive cooperation across all fields, in order to maintain, consolidate, and further deepen the relationship between Vietnam and Laos, and between Son La and Xaysomboun provinces in a more practical and effective manner. He also emphasised the importance of thoroughly disseminating and effectively implementing the contents of the cooperation minutes between the two provinces, and of creating favourable conditions for agencies and localities to strengthen exchanges and experience-sharing in various fields.
