Conference promoting Northwest - Ho Chi Minh City tourism connectivity

A conference promoting tourism cooperation between the Northwest region and Ho Chi Minh City took place in the largest economic hub of Vietnam on December 4. This event kick-started the Northwest – Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Tourism Week 2023 in the city.

In 2023, the tourism development cooperation programme between eight provinces of the expanded Northwest region and Ho Chi Minh City has achieved a lot of good results, through cultural and tourism events, joint tourism and investment promotion programmes, and tourism human resources training. Members of the cooperation group have actively issued plans, organised and participated in annual tourism promotion events and those set in the plan. The group's tourism promotion activities have contributed to expanding the tourist market, gradually affirming the reputation, image and brand of Northwest and Ho Chi Minh City tourism, and introducing and promoting the images and tourism products of the localities to partners, investors, and domestic and foreign tourists.

Speaking at the conference, a leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La province emphasised that in recent years, Son La province has become a safe and attractive destination in the Northwest region with unique and diverse tourism products. Notably, its Moc Chau National Tourist Area has attracted millions of visitors each year. Aiming to develop tourism into a key economic sector, Son La always determines that cooperation and market expansion are important tasks that need to be carried out regularly and continuously. The Northwest – Ho Chi Minh City Culture and Tourism Week is an opportunity for Son La to seek investment and cooperation opportunities, form inter-regional and inter-provincial tours, tourism routes and products, thus contributing to the overall development of the tourism industry.

At the event, delegates discussed solutions to boost tourism development connectivity between Northwest provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, and tourism promotion; exchanged views on mechanisms to encourage cooperation between businesses; and introduced unique and attractive tourist destinations.

The organising board also arranged a display space to introduce souvenirs, relic sites, landscapes and typical tourism products of Northwest provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.
