Northwestern provinces, HCM City boost tourism development cooperation

The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Son La province, in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Dien Bien province, organised a meeting of standing and assistant groups of the Steering Committee for tourism development in eight provinces in the expanded northwestern region and Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 in Moc Chau township on June 10.

 

An overview of the meeting.

As the head of the cooperation group for 2025, the Dien Bien provincial People's Committee actively coordinated with the People's Committees of other provinces and HCM City to develop, promulgate, and implement the cooperation group's plan for organising tourism development cooperation activities among the eight provinces in the expanded northwestern region and Ho Chi Minh City in 2025.

The participating localities regularly coordinated to exchange and provide information, share experience, and support each other in promoting, marketing, and attracting investment in their localities. They also developed plans to organise surveys and promote new tourism products, while connecting with travel agencies to attract tourists.

So far this year, the total number of visitors to the eight northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City has reached over 40.9 million, a 4% increase from the same period in 2024, achieving 45.92% of the annual plan. Of them, nearly 22.7 million visited the eight northwestern provinces, accounting for 55.5% of the total.

Total tourism revenue is estimated at 135.5 trillion VND (5.2 million USD), reaching 40.34% of the 2025 annual plan and up 9% year-on-year.

During the meeting, delegates discussed and contributed ideas to a draft plan for tourism development cooperation between the provinces in the expanded northwestern region and Ho Chi Minh City in 2026, as well as the orientations for for the 2026-2030 period. The discussions focused on cooperation plans between provinces after provincial-level administrative unit rearrangements, linking tourism development cooperation with foreign countries, and developing new inter-provincial tourism products.

Within the framework of the event, there was an exhibition showcasing tourism products and OCOP (One Commune One Product) items from the eight northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City. Additionally, a Famtrip delegation was organised to survey and evaluate several tourism products, resorts, and tourist destinations within the Moc Chau National Tourist Area.
