The trip formed part of a tourism cooperation and development programme linking Muong La, Ngoc Chien, Chieng Hoa, Ta Xua and Bac Yen communes in Son La province with Mu Cang Chai, Pung Luong, Tu Le, Van Chan and Hanh Phuc in Lao Cai province, as well as Than Uyen in Lai Chau province.

The survey aimed to assess the tourism potential of the Son La hydropower reservoir area and to review on-the-ground conditions of existing tourism products and services offered by localities around the lake, including communes in Muong La and Quynh Nhai, as well as related services in surrounding areas across Son La province.

The findings will serve as a basis for rolling out future tourism cooperation among Muong La, Ngoc Chien, Chieng Hoa, Ta Xua and Bac Yen communes in Son La province; Mu Cang Chai, Pung Luong, Tu Le, Van Chan and Hanh Phuc in Lao Cai province; and Than Uyen in Lai Chau, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation tied to ethnic cultural preservation among the 11 communes.
