Trung Hieu Organic Cooperative – bright spot in organic agricultural production

The Trung Hieu Organic Cooperative, located in Buc hamlet, Chieng Sung commune, Mai Son district, is actively partnering and closely cooperating with local residents and cooperative members to develop corn and vegetable cultivation. It stands out as a model in promoting organic and sustainable agricultural production.

Established in July 2018, the Trung Hieu Organic Cooperative began with just 15 members cultivating over 150 hectares of sweet corn and various vegetables. Now, it has 59 members and partners with 719 households across the districts of Mai Son, Muong La, and Yen Chau, growing 400 hectares of sweet corn and 450 hectares of vegetable soybeans, yielding more than 10,000 tonnes annually.

Doan Thi Thuy, Director of the cooperative, said that organic agriculture must be implemented from the very beginning — including land preparation, seed selection, fertilisation, and the installation of an automatic irrigation system — all of which must be done in a synchronized manner. Throughout the planting, care, harvesting, and preliminary processing stages, cooperative members and workers are closely guided and strictly supervised by the cooperative’s technical team to ensure compliance with safe production standards.

Leo Mai Dong, head of the technical team, added: “Our task is to closely monitor the cultivation of sweet corn and vegetable soybeans. We regularly inspect each plot of land and guide farmers in proper technical care. As harvest time approaches, we frequently check product quality to ensure correct size and nutritional content before allowing harvesting to proceed.”

Currently, the Trung Hieu Organic Cooperative supplies its products under orders to several major processing factories, such as the Doveco Son La Fruit and Vegetable Processing Centre, Dong Giao Food Import-Export JSC (Ninh Binh province), and Global Food JSC (Bac Giang province), among others.

Kieu Duc Tam, a member of the cooperative, shared: "I received training and technical support in planting, caring for, and post-harvest handling of crops like corn, soybeans, and vegetables. Thanks to that, crop yields and quality have improved significantly, meeting the strict requirements of processing enterprises. My four hectares of sweet corn alone produce over 80 tonnes per crop, generating nearly 400 million VND (15,434 USD) in revenue."

The cooperative's expansion of organic farming and the development of a linked consumption chain have allowed it to efficiently tap into local potential, establish specialised cultivation areas, reduce small-scale farming, and create high-quality, competitive products. Since its founding, the cooperative and its partner households have annually produced and sold over 6,000 tonnes of sweet corn and 4,000 tonnes of vegetable soybeans to processing companies, generating nearly 80 billion VND in revenue each year.

With its successful organic farming model, the Trung Hieu Organic Cooperative is making a significant contribution to the transformation of the local agricultural structure and the promotion of socio-economic development.
