Son La athlete wins gold at 20th World Pencak Silat Championship for 4th time

Quang Thi Thu Nghia from Son La province won a gold medal in the women’s 75 kg individual tanding (combat) at the 20th World Pencak Silat Championship, held from December 19 to 22 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in the United Arab Emirates.

Nghia was the only athlete from Son La province selected for the Vietnam Pencak Silat team to compete in the event.

She showcased exceptional skills by defeating top-tier opponents to reach the final and secured the gold, contributing to the overall success of the Vietnam Pencak Silat team, which earned a total of 10 gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The championship, organized by the International Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with the UAE’s General Authority of Sports and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, attracted over 1,200 athletes and coaches from 55 countries.

Competitors participated in various events, including seni (performance) and tanding for age groups ranging from 12 to 46. This prestigious tournament is one of the most significant in Pencak Silat, drawing a large number of martial artists from around the world.
