Sop Cop commune concludes first sports festival

Sop Cop commune on June 1 concluded its first Sports Festival 2026, which ran from March through May and drew more than 600 athletes from 14 agencies and organisations and 19 hamlets. Competitors took part in seven-a-side men's football, men's and women's volleyball, tug of war, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, con (cloth ball) throwing and badminton.

According to the organising committee, all competitions were conducted safely and in compliance with tournament regulations, with contests delivering a high level of sporting quality. Athletes competed in the spirit of “solidarity, honesty and fair play,” while traditional ethnic sports and folk games proved particularly popular, drawing large crowds of enthusiastic spectators.

At the conclusion of the festival, the organising committee awarded the overall championship to Cang hamlet, with Sop Cop hamlet taking second place and Sop Cop High School finishing third. A total of 23 sets of gold, silver and bronze medals were also presented to athletes with outstanding performances.
