Attending the event were Vice Chairpersons of the provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairpersons of the provincial People’s Council, and leaders of provincial departments, agencies, and sectors. The meeting was connected online to localities across the province.

In August and during the first eight months of 2026, the province’s socio-economic situation continued to remain stable, with many positive developments. In August, the index of industrial production was estimated to increase by 4.5% from the previous month and by 26.67% year on year.

Total retail sales of goods reached 4.48 trillion VND (171.6 million USD), up 29.3% year on year. The value of exported goods was estimated at 15.49 million USD, up 49.85% from the previous month. State budget revenue in the province was projected at 465 billion VND, bringing the figure in the first eight months to 3.76 trillion VND.

As of August 20, disbursement of public investment capital had reached more than 3.27 trillion VND, equivalent to 41.6% of the plan. The province continued to focus on investment support and attraction. During the month, it approved 32 investment projects outside industrial parks, with total registered capital of 49.35 trillion VND, and adjustments to 17 projects. Agricultural production remained stable.

The province actively supported efforts to address the impacts of natural disasters, took proactive measures to prevent and control animal diseases, and made thorough preparations for the second Son La Coffee Festival.

Social welfare policies and care for people with meritorious services continued to receive attention. Preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year were accelerated, particularly the opening of two inter-level boarding schools in the border communes of Yen Son and Long Phieng.

Healthcare, disease prevention and control, and free health check-ups for local residents were effectively implemented. Tourism continued to grow strongly, with 272,000 visitors recorded in August and estimated tourism revenue of 350 billion VND.

At the meeting, participants provided comments on draft decisions of the provincial People’s Committee on supplementing the 2026 land fund use plan to generate land-related revenue in the province; the project on developing the border-area economy of Son La province for the 2026–2030 and 2030–2035 periods; the allocation and additional assignment of the 2026 expenditure estimate; and the allocation, transfer, handover, and liquidation of public assets in the province.

In his concluding remarks, Viet called on authorities at all levels, sectors, agencies, organisations and localities to enhance their sense of responsibility and proactively and actively implement all assigned tasks in a full and timely manner, while regularly inspecting, hastening, and monitoring implementation progress and results.

He urged continued decisive and effective implementation of measures to accelerate the disbursement of public investment capital, with monthly and quarterly disbursement plans developed to strive for 100% disbursement of the 2026 capital plan assigned by the Prime Minister.

He also called for thorough preparations for the opening ceremonies of the 2026–2027 academic year at schools, ensuring that they are solemn, practical and effective while creating a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere for the first day of school and the nationwide event of taking children to school.

He further stressed the need to proactively respond to potential emergencies, including natural disasters, floods, forest fires, and security and public order incidents in the province./.
