16th-term Son La provincial People's Committee convenes fourth meeting

Deputy Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet on July 29 chaired the fourth meeting of the 16th provincial People's Committee for the 2026–2031 tenure to review socio-economic development, national defence and security in July and discuss key tasks for August.

The meeting, held in both in-person and online formats, was attended by standing members of the provincial People's Council and People's Committee, along with heads of departments, agencies and sectors.

In July, authorities at all levels and sectors have focused on implementing the 2026 socio-economic development plan and State budget estimates; accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital; preparing documents for the second session of the 16th-term provincial People's Council; and strengthening measures to inspect and stabilise prices and markets, and ensure the balance of supply and demand, food safety and hygiene, political security, social order and safety, traffic safety, and fire prevention and control.

Total retail sales of goods are estimated at 4.13 trillion VND (156.9 million USD), while the export value reaches an estimated 10.33 million USD. State budget revenue collected in the province is estimated at 421 billion VND. As of July 27, the disbursement rate of public investment had reached 37.8% of the allocated annual plan. Progress has been also recorded in culture, education, health care and social welfare, while national defence and security remain firmly maintained and external relations continue to be promoted.

Participants also discussed draft reports, plans, decisions and submissions concerning the province's digital economy and digital society development for the 2026–2030 period; and the classification and delineation of villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, as well as particularly disadvantaged villages following the reorganisation of villages, hamlets and residential areas. Regulations on the maximum and minimum land price adjustment coefficients; and a proposal to approve additional targeted funding from the 2026 provincial budget to commune-level budgets for the procurement of equipment and supplies for boarding primary and secondary schools in border communes were also put on table, together with other issues.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Viet requested departments, sectors and localities to continue closely following the province's 2026 socio-economic development targets and indicators by developing monthly and quarterly plans, tasks and solutions to ensure the highest possible fulfilment of assigned objectives. He also called for reviewing, adjusting and implementing growth scenarios for the third and fourth quarters, and introducing specific measures to boost economic growth.

The leader urged authorities to speed up the implementation of development projects and accelerate the disbursement of public investment, particularly for key projects and national target programmes. He also stressed the need to strengthen direction, inspection and supervision of the construction of inter-level boarding school campuses to ensure their completion in August for operation in the 2026–2027 academic year./.
