Located 56 km from the district center, Ca Nang is the most remote commune in Quynh Nhai, with 979 households and 4,470 residents. When the commune began its journey for the status, it faced numerous challenges, including uneven education levels, fragmented and inefficient agricultural practices, and a high poverty rate. In 2021, the commune only met four out of the 19 criteria. However, with strong determination and great efforts from the local authorities and residents, Ca Nang overcame these challenges.
Over three years, Ca Nang mobilized over 27.7 billion VND (1.09 million USD) for the new-style rural development programme, with more than 1 billion VND contributed by local people. The commune concreted nearly 13 km of internal roads, built over 18 km of inter-field roads, and repaired or upgraded 16 irrigation works, seven cultural houses, and six clean water projects. Now Ca Nang has met all 19 criteria.
The commune has also developed several agricultural models with high economic potential, such as growing specialty sticky rice and Chinese black olive, breeding green-necked ducks, cultivating Homalomena occulta, and raising large livestock. As a result, the poverty rate in the commune has dropped to 7.5%, and the employment rate for working-age residents is 89.3%.
At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong congratulated the commune on the achievement and encouraged the local authorities and people to continue their efforts in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. He stressed the importance of focusing on implementing effective production models such as livestock farming, afforestation, and growing medicinal plants under forest canopy; improving education and social welfare; and maintaining the standards of the new-style rural development criteria. Ca Nang was also urged to develop a roadmap to meet the standards for an advanced new-style rural area in the near future.
