Long Sap border residents celebrate National Day

Joining celebrations across the country for Vietnam's National Day, Long Sap border commune held a range of cultural, sports and trade activities on September 1, drawing large crowds of residents and visitors.

The celebrations featured a variety of traditional activities, including tug-of-war, stick pushing, pounding banh day (round glutinous rice cakes), tu lu (spinning tops) and con (cloth ball) throwing, along with cultural performances showcasing the traditions of the Mong, Thai and Kho Mu ethnic groups.

From August 31, Long Sap commune has also hosted a "Highland Border Market" with more than 200 stalls selling brocade clothing, local agricultural products, Thai and Lao household goods, ethnic dishes and other products.

A cultural camp featuring seven stalls from local hamlets has offered visitors a glimpse into the distinctive culture of the northern highlands, attracting thousands of residents and visitors from both sides of the border.

Long Sap has 14 hamlets inhabited by six ethnic groups and shares more than 30 km of border with Laos, with an international border gate connecting the two countries.

The cultural and sports exchanges and market organised by the commune have created a festive atmosphere for border communities during the National Day holiday, while encouraging residents to boost production, preserve ethnic traditions and work together to safeguard the country's border./.
