The delegation conducted a field survey on the Son La hydropower reservoir, assessing the development of tourism, energy, and transportation in the upstream area of Pa Uon Bridge, covering Quynh Nhai, Muong Gion, and Muong Chien communes.
On June 13, 2025, the Prime Minister issued a decision approving the Tourism System Development Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2045. Under the plan, the Son La reservoir area was officially included in the list of tourism destinations with the potential to be developed into a National Tourism Area.
By 2030, the tourism area is expected to welcome 1.3 million visitors and generate total tourism revenue of 6.8 trillion VND (258.2 million USD). At the same time, Son La province aims to fulfill more than 50% of the criteria required for recognition of the Son La hydropower reservoir area as a National Tourism Area, with the goal of meeting all requirements by 2035.

A review of projects in the former Quynh Nhai district found that eight projects had been granted investment policy approval and investment registration certificates by competent authorities without going through an auction process. Meanwhile, VinEnergo Energy Joint Stock Company is proposing three floating solar power projects – Floating Solar Power Plants 1.1, 1.2, and 2. Once implemented, the projects are expected to contribute nearly 7.28 trillion VND (276.5 million USD) to total social investment capital.
Speaking at the working session, Hung called on provincial departments, sectors, and local authorities to continue reviewing and refining planning schemes to ensure a balanced approach between renewable energy development and sustainable tourism growth in the Son La hydropower reservoir area.
He stressed that the province is pursuing the goal of developing the Son La reservoir area into a National Tourism Area and Quynh Nhai into a provincial-level tourism destination. Therefore, provincial agencies should carefully study and assess renewable energy projects in the reservoir area to ensure they not only maximise power generation efficiency and contribute to the province’s economic growth, but also align with planning objectives and support tourism development.
