Son La boosts lifelong learning with scholarships, campaign
The provincial Association for Promoting Education on May 19 held a scholarship award ceremony and launched the 2026 “Learning Never Ends” campaign.
Attending the event were Ha Trung Chien, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Manh Hung, Standing Vice President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, along with representatives from provincial departments and agencies and 189 individuals recognised for their contributions to the “Learning Never Ends” movement.

The scholarship programme, launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, aims to encourage lifelong learning in line with the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh. It also seeks to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving strong academic results, while recognising individuals who actively pursue self-learning and effectively apply knowledge in work, production and profesxsional activities.

To date, the province has recorded 742,335 learning citizens, 244,713 learning families, 1,176 learning clans, 1,974 learning communities and 902 learning organisations.
Through education and talent promotion initiatives, the provincial Association for Promoting Education has awarded 1,451 certificates of merit and scholarships worth over 1.1 billion VND (42,000 USD) to outstanding organisations and individuals. Associations at different levels across the province have also recognised and rewarded thousands of exemplary organisations and individuals, with total funding of more than 2.5 billion VND.

At the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to 189 outstanding individuals, including high-performing farmers, distinguished teachers, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, outstanding students and those who won national awards. The total scholarship value exceeded 200 million VND.
Speaking at the event, Chien called on authorities at all levels to continue fostering a learning society and creating conditions for all citizens to access education, enhance knowledge and achieve all-round development.
He also urged broader adoption of effective learning models and timely recognition of exemplary individuals, while encouraging organisations, businesses and benefactors to support education promotion efforts and help disadvantaged people improve their lives through knowledge.

Lo Minh Hung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council, on September 24 led a working delegation on a field inspection of preparations for the Moc Chau–Son La–Dien Bien Expressway project (CT.03). The delegation also held a working session with the Party Committees of Van Son and Thao Nguyen wards and Tan Yen and Doan Ket communes.
The project to complete Route 1A and develop the Tay Bac Square flower garden, covering the section from Trang Bridge to Route 1A, has entered its final stretch. The project is being carried out to mark the 131st founding anniversary of Son La province.
The Son La provincial People’s Committee on September 23 held the 2026 professional firefighting and rescue competition for grassroots fire prevention and firefighting and rescue forces, civil defence forces, and “fire safety inter-family groups” in Son La province, at Tay Bac Square.
Nguyen Minh Tien, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, chaired a meeting of the Organising Committee for the second Son La Coffee Festival 2026 on September 23. The meeting was attended by members of the Organising Committee, leaders of provincial departments and agencies, and representatives of several communes and wards across the province.
Son La Social Security held a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration for and presented academic awards to children of the agency’s civil servants, public employees, and workers on the evening of September 22.
Taking advantage of its cool climate, elevation of 1,400-1,800 metres above sea level, and extensive natural forest areas, Xim Vang commune is encouraging cooperatives and local residents to pilot the cultivation of Ngoc Linh ginseng under the forest canopy. Early results from the ginseng plots have been promising, opening up prospects for developing a high-value medicinal crop while creating additional livelihoods for local people in tandem with forest protection.
The Youth Union of Son La province held talks on September 23 with their counterparts from Laos’ Bokeo and Luang Namtha provinces to exchange experience in Youth Union work and youth and children’s movements.
The provincial youth and children activity centre, in coordination with the provincial children’s council, the Muong Khieng commune authorities, and partner organisations and individuals, held the 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival celebration themed “Lighting Up the Dreams of Son La Children,” at Muong Khieng 1 Secondary School on September 22. The event drew more than 1,000 students and parents from across the commune.
The Standing Boards of the Lao Cai and Son La provincial Party Committees held a conference in Lao Cai on September 22 to review cooperation between the two localities during the 2021-2025 period and agree on the orientations and areas of collaboration for 2026-2030.
With more than 2,600 hectares of coffee plantations, Chieng Coi ward has identified coffee as its key crop and is rolling out a range of measures to develop the sector sustainably, adapt to climate change and meet export market requirements, helping to raise local incomes.
The Son La provincial Centre for Agricultural Extension and Digital Transformation on September 22 organised a forum on enhancing governance and digital transformation capacity for agricultural cooperatives to build brands linked to eco-tourism. Participants included representatives from specialised agencies, the provincial Cooperative Alliance, experts, businesses, and 160 cooperatives from across the province.
The provincial Department of Public Security held a conference on September 22 to review two years of implementing the “Safe Traffic Transport Business” model across the province.
Following the merger of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) branches in Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces, SBV Region III now oversees a large area with a substantial workload. The branch has stepped up the use of digital technology in management and administration, gradually modernising its working environment, improving operational efficiency and meeting the demands of development in the digital era.
Leveraging favourable climate and soil conditions to develop agriculture and experiential tourism, cooperatives in Moc Chau ward have embraced new approaches, adopted science and technology, and forged value-chain production linkages. By combining clean agriculture with experiential tourism, they are increasing the value of agricultural products, raising members’ incomes and contributing to local economic development.
The Muoi Noi commune People’s Committee, in coordination with the provincial Department of Health, the Vietnam Children’s Fund, and Chubb Life Vietnam Co., Ltd., organised a programme to present gifts to disadvantaged children in Muoi Noi and Nam Lau communes on September 21 at the Bon Phang campus of Muoi Noi Primary School.
Officers and firefighters of the Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Division under the Son La provincial Department of Public Security are stepping up training ahead of the province’s 2026 professional firefighting and rescue competition, sharpening their skills to respond quickly and effectively to fires, explosions and rescue situations.
A provincial supervision delegation has reviewed the implementation of policies and laws governing housing investment projects across the province from 2015 to May 2026, with a focus on identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions to accelerate project implementation.
