Son La boosts lifelong learning with scholarships, campaign
The provincial Association for Promoting Education on May 19 held a scholarship award ceremony and launched the 2026 “Learning Never Ends” campaign.
Attending the event were Ha Trung Chien, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Manh Hung, Standing Vice President of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, along with representatives from provincial departments and agencies and 189 individuals recognised for their contributions to the “Learning Never Ends” movement.

The scholarship programme, launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, aims to encourage lifelong learning in line with the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh. It also seeks to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving strong academic results, while recognising individuals who actively pursue self-learning and effectively apply knowledge in work, production and profesxsional activities.

To date, the province has recorded 742,335 learning citizens, 244,713 learning families, 1,176 learning clans, 1,974 learning communities and 902 learning organisations.
Through education and talent promotion initiatives, the provincial Association for Promoting Education has awarded 1,451 certificates of merit and scholarships worth over 1.1 billion VND (42,000 USD) to outstanding organisations and individuals. Associations at different levels across the province have also recognised and rewarded thousands of exemplary organisations and individuals, with total funding of more than 2.5 billion VND.

At the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to 189 outstanding individuals, including high-performing farmers, distinguished teachers, intellectuals, entrepreneurs, outstanding students and those who won national awards. The total scholarship value exceeded 200 million VND.
Speaking at the event, Chien called on authorities at all levels to continue fostering a learning society and creating conditions for all citizens to access education, enhance knowledge and achieve all-round development.
He also urged broader adoption of effective learning models and timely recognition of exemplary individuals, while encouraging organisations, businesses and benefactors to support education promotion efforts and help disadvantaged people improve their lives through knowledge.

After the ceremony, the provincial Association for Promoting Education launched the 2026 “Learning Never Ends” campaign among officials, Party members, workers, members of the armed forces and residents across the province.
Alongside the 12 ethnic groups living in Son La, smaller ethnic communities such as the La Ha, Kho Mu, and Khang have enriched the province's vibrant cultural landscape with their unique traditions. Over time, many of their cultural practices faced the risk of disappearing. However, thanks to the dedication of local artisans, the collective efforts of their communities, and, most importantly, the practical support and practical solutions of authorities at all levels, the cultural heritage of these smaller ethnic groups is being preserved, safeguarded, and promoted.
In response to Vietnam Health Insurance Day (July 1), the provincial Social Security and organisations supporting participant development on July 4 organised a launch ceremony for a communication campaign to provide information, answer questions, and offer consultations on health insurance policies for local residents. The event was held simultaneously at all local social security offices.
