In the first half, the border areas of Son La province remained stable in terms of political security, social order and safety. The management and protection of the national border line and border markers were strictly maintained. Relevant forces conducted 22 rounds of bilateral patrols and 200 unilateral ones, while carrying out 892 area patrols and inspections.

Border diplomacy also recorded positive results. The province effectively maintained coordination mechanisms, information exchanges and external activities with Laos’ Houaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces, while implementing comprehensive cooperation agreements that have been signed, contributing to the strengthening of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

In the last six months of 2026, the provincial Border Affairs Steering Committee will continue to disseminate and implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on border affairs. It will strengthen friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Houaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces, and effectively implement cooperation agreements between Son La province and northern Lao provinces.

The province will maintain effective bilateral and unilateral patrols, enhance coordination among forces in combating various types of crimes, and focus on developing and completing a scheme on economic development in border areas of Son La province for the 2026–2030 and 2030–2035 periods, ensuring quality and progress in accordance with the provincial People's Committee's plan.

Addressing the event, Hau requested members of the steering committee to focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management of border affairs. He called for strengthened management and protection of territorial sovereignty, border lines and national border markers, as well as proper management of border-related infrastructure in accordance with regulations.

He also urged the effective implementation of border diplomacy activities, thorough preparation for working meetings with Houaphanh and Luang Prabang provinces, and the full implementation of signed cooperation agreements. He stressed the need to mobilise and effectively use resources for socio-economic development in border areas in association with strengthening national defence, security and external relations, and improving local people's living standards.
