Regarding the search and recovery effort, all 75 communes and wards have established survey and verification teams. During the first six months of 2026, authorities received 11 leads, of which five were verified as accurate. In addition, 152 personnel were mobilised to conduct search operations over an area of 0.113 hectares, excavating 150 cubic meters of soil. As a result, the remains of five fallen soldiers were recovered.
The province currently has 579 graves whose occupants have not yet been identified. Between June 11 and July 5, 2026, the provincial team responsible for collecting samples from martyrs' remains completed the exhumation of all 579 graves. Of these, 346 were found to be suitable for DNA sample collection, while 236 did not contain sufficient biological material for DNA testing.
The Son La provincial Steering Committee for the campaign will continue reviewing key areas to search for and recover the remains of fallen soldiers. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to collect DNA samples from the relatives of unidentified martyrs across the province between July 19 and 23.
