Tay Bac University is a public university under the Ministry of Education and Training, tasked with training human resources for the northwestern region.
The university currently offers master's programmes and 25 undergraduate majors, as well as professional training for public employees. It also conducts scientific research, transfers technology and provides technical services to support socio-economic development in the region.
The university also provides Vietnamese-language training for Lao students enrolled under the university foundation programme, and general education from students at Chu Van An Primary, Secondary and High School.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, the university had more than 5,800 students. It launched two new undergraduate programmes in Natural Sciences and History-Geography Education, and completed six specialised training programmes in agriculture and forestry.
During the year, the university managed 15 ministry-level scientific research projects and 43 institution-level science and technology projects, as well as nearly 100 university-level research projects conducted by students. The proportion of students participating in scientific research has consistently stood at 5-10%.
For the 2026-2027 academic year, Tay Bac University enrolls students in 25 undergraduate programmes, with 1,342 places for the full-time undergraduate programme, 31 for the university foundation programme and the nomination-based admission scheme, 71 for Lao students, and 298 for work-study programmes.
The university will continue to open and enroll students in new undergraduate programmes, including Natural Sciences, History-Geography, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Culture, and Lao and Thai languages. It will also continue to improve education quality with a focus on substantive outcomes and train high-quality human resources for provinces.
On the occasion, Hung presented certificates of merit from the Prime Minister to two individuals; certificates of merit from the Minister of Education and Training to Tay Bac University, the Faculty of Social Sciences and 12 individuals; and certificates of merit from the Chairperson of the provincial People's Committee to three individuals./.
