Remains of fallen soldier recovered in Hua Dan hamlet

The provincial Steering Committee 515, in coordination with the Chieng Hac commune People’s Committee and Military Command, organised the excavation and recovery of the remains of a fallen soldier in Hua Dan hamlet on September 11.

 

Following information provided by a local resident, and a field survey conducted by the provincial Military Command on August 28, authorities determined that sometime between the 1950s and 1960s, a military unit passing through the area - then part of Lia Hang hamlet, Tu Nang commune, in the former Yen Chau district (now Chieng Hac commune), had buried a soldier at the site.

Local residents had cared for and protected the grave and preserved the site in its original condition for many years.

Competent forces recovered the remains of one fallen soldier along with several personal and military artifacts, including three military uniform buttons and numerous bullet fragments found embedded around the head and back of the remains.

The Steering Committee documented the condition of the grave and collected biological samples for DNA testing to help identify the soldier.

The remains were subsequently handed over to the Yen Chau commune People’s Committee to organise a memorial service and burial in accordance with regulations./.
