Children under 18 get free cardiovascular screening, consultation

The provincial Department of Health and the provincial General Hospital, in coordination with the Cardiovascular Centre of Hanoi-based E Hospital and Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise (VCF SE), on December 13 organised a programme providing free cardiovascular disease screening and consultation for local children under 18 years old.

The congenital heart disease screening programme for children under 18 at the provincial General Hospital.

The December 13-14 programme is expected to screen 300 children, including children with congenital heart disease already detected by medical facilities or those with indications for surgery who require periodic monitoring and check-ups; children suspected of having congenital heart disease; and children with a need for cardiovascular health screening and early detection.

At the programme, doctors from the Cardiovascular Centre of E Hospital conduct direct cardiovascular examinations, echocardiography, and prescribed necessary paraclinical tests. For cases in which cardiovascular diseases are detected, doctors hold consultations, provide treatment guidance, and complete referral procedures when necessary.

Children from poor households or families with meritorious service to the nation who were diagnosed with congenital heart disease during the screening are guided in completing applications for free heart surgery support. The funding for free heart surgery is sponsored by VCF SE.

The programme is of practical significance, contributing to the early detection of cardiovascular diseases in children under 18 and enabling timely treatment and surgical intervention, especially for those in remote and disadvantaged areas.

It also strengthens professional coordination and support between the provincial General Hospital and E Hospital, enhancing the professional capacity of provincial health staff. At the same time, it helps spread humanitarian and charitable activities in community health care, contributing to the effective implementation of the Son La Action Programme for Children for the 2021-2030 period.
