Conference seeks to address difficulties in school health care

The Son La provincial Department of Education and Training organised a conference on October 17 to provide consultancy on removing difficulties and obstacles in implementing contracts for primary health care and food safety in organising school meals in the province.

Delegates attend the conference.

As the school health staff were reassigned to work at health stations in communes, wards, and towns in 2018, the province currently has only 13 health workers assigned to work at the provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minority Students, and 11 district-level boarding secondary and high schools for ethnic minority students.

Every year, the health sector directs relevant agencies and units to organise inspections and monitor compliance with food safety regulations at food service businesses and collective kitchens across the province.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, there are 393 schools providing meal services for over 100,000 students. Of which, 94 have signed contracts with health facilities.

At the event, participants discussed and proposed solutions to address difficulties, such as developing specific guidelines for educational institutions on budgeting, managing, utilising, and settling funds for primary health care sourced from student health insurance.

They also reviewed educational institutions that sign contracts with district and city health centres, and agreed to allocate a budget of 2.5 million VND (99 USD) per month to support food safety control efforts.
