DNA sampling completed at seven martyrs cemeteries in Son La

Son La province has 14 martyrs cemeteries, seven of which contain 579 graves of fallen soldiers whose identities have yet to be determined. As part of the “500-day-and-night campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains,” the province has completed DNA sampling for identification purposes at all seven cemeteries.

Samples have been collected from 346 graves for DNA testing, while samples could not be obtained from 233 graves. Five sets of unidentified martyrs’ remains have been recovered, with memorial services and reburials held for the fallen soldiers.

The sampling process strictly followed established procedures and trained protocols, ensuring accuracy, safety and compliance at every stage, with no errors reported.

The provincial Military Command will continue to review and verify information, conduct surveys and carry out the search and recovery of martyrs’ remains. It will also step up public communications and mobilise information from local residents and war veterans, while strengthening coordination among relevant forces.

These efforts aim to successfully achieve the targets of the 500-day-and-night campaign, contributing to the effective implementation of the military’s policies for veterans and their families and upholding Vietnam’s tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source”./.
