DNA sampling conducted to identify fallen soldiers’ remains in Mai Son commune

A team under the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection and Identification of Remains of Marrtyrs in Son La province, in coordination with Mai Son commune, on June 27 collected DNA samples from unidentified war martyrs’ remains at the communal matyrs’ cemetery to establish their identities.

The cemetery is home to 168 unidentified graves. Under the “500-day campaign” to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains, DNA samples were collected from the graves for forensic analysis.

Before sample collection began, the teams surveyed and marked graves lacking identification, standardised data on headstones and in the management software system for cross-checking, and assigned unified identification codes.

Authorities digitise samples of fallen soldiers’ remains.

The entire process of sample collection, preservation, handover and transport, and digitisation of information on the martyrs’ graves was carried out in line with technical procedures, ensuring strict, scientific and fully secure handling with no room for error.
