Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee provides aid to flood-hit Son La residents

A delegation from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) led by Secretary Nguyen Tuong Lam, who is also President of the Vietnam Youth Federation, visited Pung Khuong hamlet, Huoi Mot commune, Son La province on August 10 to deliver aid and encouragement to flood-affected residents.

Leaders from the Son La provincial Youth Union and local authorities of Huoi Mot commune also joined the delegation.

The working delegation visits and delivers aid to residents of Pung Khuong hamlet, Huoi Mot commune.

Huoi Mot is among the hardest-hit areas in the province, following severe floods starting July 26. A total of 225 homes across 24 hamlets were affected. Cracks and landslide risks have been reported on hillside areas in Nam Pu, Cang Coi, and Cha Huoi hamlets, posing danger to 26 households.

About 121 hectares of rice, 187 hectares of short-term crops, and 31 hectares of perennial crops were hit. Additionally, landslides have damaged several roads, washed away or severely impaired five bridges, and caused subsidence at some local schools. Total estimated damage exceeds 180 billion VND (6.86 million USD).

The Son La provincial Youth Union receives funding and essential supplies from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to support flood recovery efforts.

The Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and leaders of the Son La provincial Youth Union deliver relief aid to the people of Pung Khuong hamlet.

At the event, representatives from the HYUC Central Committee, the Vietnam Youth Federation, and the Son La provincial Youth Union distributed 92 aid packages to affected households in Pung Khuong. Each package included 10 kilograms of rice, blankets, and other essentials.

The delegation also visited and offered support to five families whose homes had to be urgently relocated due to landslides. The total value of the aid was over 250 million VND.

Lam expressed deep sympathy for the community’s losses and encouraged residents to stay resilient and gradually rebuild their lives. He called on the Son La Youth Union and local authorities to coordinate damage assessments at schools, households, and transport infrastructure. He also recommended mobilising resources from other provinces, organisations, and individuals to support those in the flood’s hardest-hit zones.
